Match Report

Welwyn Ladies 43 - 31 Ampthill Ladies, Challenge South East

On a good day for rugby the Ampthill Lionesses travelled to 3rd place Welwyn Ladies. Carrying a number of injuries meant that the Lionesses had players out of position and 2 debutants (Lorraine Claxton and Rachel Board) but all 18 girls acquitted themselves superbly well.

Welwyn have a big pack but positional problems forced the game into uncontested scrums. This development rather stole the Lionesses thunder as the power from their front five is beginning to be one of the Lioness’s go to strengths. Despite this issue, Welwyn converted their efforts into open play with the ruck game combined with their back row to win so many turn over balls.

The backs not to be outdone showed superb skills in defence and attack, dealing well with the biggest outside centre in the league and running the ball at every opportunity.
